The Box Office Hustle!!!

It is time, once again, to predict the top three box office hits for the upcoming weekend.  Instead of bloviating, let’s get to it.  Anybody have a problem with that??!!??

It is with pleasure that I introduce the number three movie of the weekend, “The Blind Side”, starring Sandra Bullock.  It looks like she may have a critical and box office hit on her hands.  This film is based on the true story of Michael Oher, a young African American who is taken in by a well off white family.  It is a journey of self discovery for Michael who, in turn, brings out the best in the family who adopts him into there lives.  This movie has that feel good atmosphere that is going to draw a wide audience for many weeks through the holiday season.  Expect this movie to have a $15 to $18 million take this weekend.

Coming in at number two is “2012”, the latest disaster flick from Roland Emmerich and starring John Cusack.  This film made a staggering $225 million worldwide this weekend (which exceeded my expectations).  I promised, for the purpose of these weekly installments, to keep my opinions to myself regarding movies.  I will save it for another time.  However, this movie will continue to draw crowds for, at least, a couple more weeks.  No doubt, it will dissapear into history once “Avatar” shows up.  In the mean time, go see it.  You’ll either really like it, or really despise it.  Regardless, you will be impressed with the special effects.

“The Twilight Saga:  New Moon” is the film that most people will sink their teeth into (sorry for the weak pun) this weekend.  This film carries one of the biggest fan bases this side of Hogwarts.  Experts are predicting over a $100 million weekend take.  If that’s not a hustle, I don’t know what is.  Due to my morbid interest, (I plan to read the books at some point) I will end up seeing this film.  The movie has a lot to offer with a love story (triangle), action and drama.  It also sports the addition of some reputable actors including Michael Sheen and Dakota Fanning.  In this installment we find Edward leaving Bella in order to protect her from the vampire world, which could end up harming her.  In comes Jacob with his chiseled body to save the day.  However, it looks like Edward will return to cock block Jacob in the final scenes.  We’ll see what happens.

So, now you know the movies that will hustle you out of your money.  Just to clarify, bloviate means to discourse at length in a pompous or boastful manner.  I seek to, not only enlighten, but to educate.  You’re welcome.  Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go buy my “Team Jacob” T-shirt.  I’ll see you at the movies.  You may now GO GET HUSTLED!!!!
