Obama Wants to Fund Hip-Hop & Graffiti !

Ok so I was surfing, doing what I do best and found this article. All I have to say is ABOUT DAYUM TIME !!

The new head of the National Endowment for the Arts,Rocco Landesman, says that he would like to explore funding for hip-hop culture, including rap and graffiti.  Obama’s stimulus act would fund $50 million dollars to the arts, including hip-hop.

Thanks to the Wall Street Journal, I found this :

“There are new forms of music . . . and the NEA should be there. We should be reflecting the reality in our world these days, whether it’s hip-hop, or whatever. There’s a lot going on that the NEA traditionally has no comprehension about.”

“Do you think that hip-hop would be an appropriate area for NEA to fund?” I inquired.

“Absolutely. And mural painting and graffiti are art. There are popular aspects of all the arts that I think shouldn’t be ignored.”

Funding hip-hop—the best of which is rhythmically poetic, but commonly punctuated by profanity, violence and/or misogynistic sexuality—could put the previously embattled agency back in the crosshairs of the decency police. Congress had considered shutting the agency down in the 1990s over grants to exhibitions and artists that some politicians deemed obscene, blasphemous and unworthy of government support.’

Ok so basically, congressman are questioning whether or not hip-hop should be publically funded because of it’s degrading messages. What people fail to realize it, hip-hop is an ART! It embraces everything under the sun. Whether it is positive or negative, it’s art. Point Blank.

Art of the
Should it not be funded because it disrespects women & promotes violence?
Should Obama fund the money that supports hip-hop?
